The Slyde Handboards Swallow tail (a closer look)
Our introductory shape into the market has been the swallow tail or what we call the double swallow tail, Because of the wings higher up the rail more or less where the front fins sit. The shape can also be commonly referred to as the "wing" shape of the swallow tail family of boards and commonly used on the fish surfboard. However it is becoming more and more popular on short board designs. The Swallow tail is closely related to the squash tail by that we mean that the tail provides more water surface area between the rails, this gives the rider exactly what they want in more planning speed and lift out of the water. The tail curves down and forms a V-shape cutout where it would have been a squash box has now been removed to create two points these two points of the swallow tail give the board more control and hold on tight turns. The swallow tail combines a rail drive of the squaretail and the sensitivity of the Pintail
Our version of the swallow tail allows an increased drive into smaller dumpier waves and the wings or double swallow allows for extra control on steeper face where you really need it. We intentionally included a wider Tail to allow for that little bit of extra hand coverage. We found with smaller hand planes/Handboards there wasn't the control we were looking for.
