Laird Hamilton is one of my all time favorite Surfers and adventurers. He is one of those people I'd most like to meet. here are some fitness tips Laird uses to stay in shape to keep up with the monsters he rides

Have you ever watched any big wave surfing movies and wondered how they manage to do what they do?

Watching those surfers go at it gives me a great appreciation for how fit and strong they are as surfers. What better example to follow, than that of our big wave heroes...and who other than big wave legend Laird Hamilton to set some fitness benchmarks for us to follow...

So what does this super fit surfing legend do to stay in shape for surfing?

Check it out...

  • For his strength workouts, Laird likes to alternate muscle groups (eg upper body / lower body or push / pull) to minimise rest time between sets and maximise the cardio effect of the workout.
  • Laird also likes to do exercises that use his core muscles as much as possible, and tries to stay clear of exercise machines that isolate muscle groups.
  • His workouts include exercises with an emphasis on lunges, presses, squats and lifts
  • Laird also likes to vary his workouts on a regular basis to ensure he is continually challenging himself
