10 Health Benefits of Visiting a Beach Every Day

According to a study done by Everest College, 83% of US workers are stressed. As much as we work to try to make ends meet, there needs to be a way that we can relieve some of this stress.

Going to the beach is one of the best ways to relieve that stress.

There are scientific studies that back up the benefits of going to the beach, and today I want to talk about some of those benefits of visiting the beach every day, and how it can improve your life.

1. Mental Clarity

We live in a society where stress can get the best of us. Having the ability to find a place to relieve this stress is vital to our overall health.

According to WebMD, stress can lead to all sorts of bad ailments for our bodies. Going to the beach can help bring back our mental clarity and help us think clearer. This leads to retaining state of calm.  Listening to the ocean, watching the tide roll in and out is a wonderful way to clear your mind and relax your entire being.

2. Reduces Stress

Stress is known to take a toll on our bodies and study after study reveals the ill effects that it can have on our overall health throughout the years.

But luckily, there are ways that we can alleviate that stress in our lives; and going to the beach might be one of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce stress. In a 2011 study, researchers at Washington University and UC Irvine did a study on the people before and after they went for a day at the beach. They found that beach trips reduce stress, and have other positive effects on our bodies.

3. Breathing Salt Air Is Good For Your Health

At the beach, you are breathing in the beautiful, fresh air. But did you know that breathing in the salty air is good for you if you have breathing problems? According to an article by Push Doctor out of the United Kingdom, a trip to the ocean has been prescribed by doctors for years.

The air is so clear and free of pollen and other pollutants that many people with allergy and breathing issues often decide to leave their current places of residence to go live in coastal communities.

4. Salt Water Is Healthy For You

Not only is the salty air good for you, but so is the salt water. Salt water is excellent for cleaning up infections and acts as an antibacterial.

There is iodine in the water as well, which is known to help boost your immune system.  Hospitals use iodine to prepare patients right before surgery because it kills bacteria. So overall, salt can help any cuts or scrapes you have on your skin.

5. Getting Your Daily Dose Of Vitamin D

It can be tough to get Vitamin D through food. This is why you will see a lot of Vitamin D supplements on the market.

One of the best ways to get your Vitamin D is to absorb it through your skin by absorbing sunlight. Sunlight is a fantastic solution to getting the Vitamin D that you need.  Of course, you have to be careful to wear sunscreen so that you don’t develop skin cancer, but small doses of the sun will greatly help when trying to get Vitamin D.

6. Boosts Creativity And Productivity

As our mood improves when relaxing at the beach, so does our creativity and productivity.  When you’re mind is relaxed and peaceful, you now have the mental clarity to be more productive.

7. Seeing Blue Relaxes Our Minds

I’ve been in marketing for a long time, and one of the first things I learned was about how different colors evoke different emotions.

Since we are talking about the beach, when you look out and see the blue ocean, it invokes feelings of calmness and serenity.  The effects of the color blue have also been backed up by a study done by Sciencemag.orgthat talks about the effects of red colors versus blue colors.

8. Staring At The Ocean And Listening To The Ebb And Flow Changes Our Brain Waves

Listening to the sound of the ocean flowing while laying out on the beach is one of the most relaxing things you can do.  As a matter of fact, Richard Shuster, PsyD, a clinical psychologist and host of The Daily Helping podcast, says that is “de-stimulates” our brains.

Even the smell of the ocean helps to relax our minds. It’s an entire experience that your body and mind are sensing and it’s one of the best things you can do after a long day at the office.

9. You Get A Better Workout By Working Out On The Sand

Getting a better workout by walking on the sand is something everyone can relate to. We all want to keep our weight in check, and many times when you go to the beach, you will notice people doing Yoga, walking, or running.

This is because the surface they are working out on is less stable and giving so it makes your muscles work harder to do what it normally has to do walking or running on a concrete surface.

10.Surrounding Yourself With Positive Energy

We are all influenced by our environment. Think about where you grew up and how your thoughts, values, opinions, and political beliefs are formed. When you are at the beach, you think positive. Everyone is relaxed and happy. Everyone is enjoying themselves and having a great time.

We are all there for the same thing, which is to escape from the daily grind and to enjoy a day of sun and relation.

Conclusion

The beach can be a sanctuary and offer a way to get away, if only for a short time. Do don’t be shy, get out there and have some fun or just relax and soak up the sun! Your mind and body will thank you for it.
